Prenatal Genetics

I just got off the phone with Stephanie from the Prenatal Genetics clinic. She got the results back from my blood test and the Nuchal translucency. There is a 1 in 2659 chance that baby Phoenix has Trisomy 21, 13, 16 or 18. That is awesome. I told her I was elated, then paused and thought for a moment. It's hard to say, but it's a truth. I am Elated that the baby doesn't have Down Syndrome. But I'm elated that Hunter is who HE is and wouldn't change him for the world, (except today he is uber cranky from teething). Just a strange and contradictory statement. To be happy that your second child doesn't have Down Syndrome, even though your first does. Does that make sense? Down syndrome or not, we intended to keep the baby regardless. Same if we knew Hunter would have DS, we wouldn't have done anything different. So, is there really any reason to be elated? Baby Phoenix is coming regardless!!! Woot!

Of course you should be elated!!! You are having a baby!!! We had the testing too even though we knew it wouldn't change if we carried the pregnancy to term. It is just nice to be a bit more prepared for the baby when they arrive.

Congrats on a the new arrival. You are going to be one busy girl. Two keep you hoppin :-)
