1) Mr. Bean is now 1 year old!
2) Mr. Bean absolutely loves to eat and is usually not picky at all. If it's edible, he's interested.
3) Bean is doing exceptional with his gross motor skills. He is crawling like crazy and walking with a little walker. For now has put fine motor skills and communication on the back burner. Once he can run he might stop long enough to learn a few words.
4) He has the most amazing smile and most pleasing laugh I have ever heard. Contagious and addictive.
5) Bean has little glasses but quite often has no patience for wearing them.
6) Hunter is extremely social and very rarely shy. He has only ever played shy twice, both times the person who made him cry was wearing glasses.
7) Hunter baby is totally in love with his Nana. They could stare at each other all day if they wouldn't starve. Perhaps a meal replacement shake with two straws, they could share and stare together.
8) Bean loves music and will dance back and forth when he hears something he really likes.
9) He runs to the TV when the Trailer Park Boys theme comes on. He hears it 4 times a day.
10) He is officially sitting forward in his car seat now.
11) He has a beautifully expressive face and will light up with a huge smile if I smile or make a winky face at him.
12) He has the cutest little fat heals! Love it! Little Stompers!
13) He is a very easy baby to take places. He never shouts (in public), cries or throws fits. He is typically content. I always say "What does he have to complain about? He's warm, fed, clean and loved. Why would he cry?" My grandfather says the next one will come out with a pitch fork!
14) Totally loves water. He sits at the front of the tub and I let the water run and he sits there with his hands feeling the trickling water coming from the tap, grabbing it, touching it, trying to bring the water to his mouth. He would sit there for hours just feeling the water run through his fingers. I bought a little watering can for him to play with in the tub so he doesn't have to sit under the tap.
15) He once called Nana long distance on his own. I usually, though not as often any more, allow him to play with the phone. It beeps and lights up but USUALLY he can't call anyone. Or hadn't till a few weeks ago when he some how managed to call Nana in Vancouver. He obviously hit redial then talk or talk then redial. Here I am at 7:30 am watching Treehouse and drinking my tea in my house coat and the phone rings. I thought it was Dave but it was Nana. She asks why I was calling there so early. I said I didn't call her, as I look at Hunter on the floor. I had to take the phone away from him when it rang. "You got a call from us?" Sure enough. I guess the first half of the call was recorded on the answering machine because they couldn't get to the phone fast enough at 6:30 am. Once they answered, all my mom could hear was grunting and heavy breathing and baby cooing noises. Smart cookie my boy is. Called Nana to say good morning. I'll have to explain to him about the time difference.
16) Hunter enjoys playing with string or wires. If something has a cord or a string on it, he will play with that string and ignore the rest of the toy entirely.
17) His newest thing is to wave/shake his arms back and forth as if he is about to clap. He will clap once or twice then go back to shaking his arms. He does this when he is super excited about something.
18) There aren't really very many things that he hates or dislikes. He doesn't totally enjoy having his diaper changed if he is playing, you are just interrupting precious play time! And he has some drops for the irritation in his eyes and he ABSOLUTELY does not like getting his eye drops. He is very cooperative with cough syrup and Motrin though. Must be the flavor.
19) He officially has TWO teeth. One just cut the gum line the other day, but you can't see it yet. Only feel it.
20) Hunter is fairly short for his age. His clothes all fit kinda funny. Either they are 12 - 18 month clothes that fit perfect in the waste, shoulder, neck and arms and are WAY too long for his legs, or they are perfect fit in the legs but WAY too tight in the waste. He is thick but short. So most of his clothes have rolled up legs and arms and most of his Pajamas have feet that trail behind him when he crawls around the house.
21) Hunter boy will have a new baby brother or sister in December! :D

21 Things About Down Syndrome
I love my 21 Things posts so today I am Posting a 21 things about Down Syndrome post for those of you who just aren't sure. Feel free to ask me any questions. I will be happy to answer them.
1) Down Syndrome is referred to Trisomy 21 because it is a chromosomal disorder or anomaly caused by the presence of a third(tri) chromosome(somy) on the 21st pair of chromosomes. Rather than having 46 Chromosome, or 13 pairs, there is one extra 21st chromosome. 47 Chromosomes!
2) The incidence of Down syndrome is estimated at 1 per 800 to 1,000 births.
3) Down syndrome occurs in all Races, Classes, Sexes, and economic levels. Therefore, down syndrome can occur all over the world.
4) The additional copy of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome can originate from either the father or the mother although, approximately five percent of the cases have been traced to the father.
5) There is absolutely nothing you can do to Cause or Prevent Down Syndrome from occurring. Down syndrome is not caused by maternal abuse (drugs, alcohol, smoking, etc)
6) Most children with Down syndrome are born to women younger than 35-years-old simply because younger women have more children. However, the incidence of births of children with Down syndrome slightly increases with the age of the mother.
7) Most people with Down syndrome have IQs that fall in the mild to moderate range of intellectual disability and are NOT usually severely disabled.
8) Babies with Down Syndrome often have Hypotonia or Low Muscle Tone. This means they are often "floppy" so it can take them a little longer to learn to do things like walk, crawl, sit up or other Gross Motor Skills.
9) At birth, kids with DS are usually of average size, but they tend to grow at a slower rate and remain smaller than their peers. (That's why the Bean is a shorty)
10) Almost half of all children born with DS will have a congenital heart defect that will require surgery.
11) English physician John Langdon Down first characterized Down syndrome as a distinct form of mental disability in 1862, and in a more widely published report in 1866. Due to his perception that children with Down syndrome shared physical facial similarities (epicanthal folds) with those of Blumenbach's Mongolian race, Down used the term mongoloid.
12) Health concerns for individuals with Down syndrome include a higher risk for congenital heart defects, gastroesophageal reflux disease, recurrent ear infections, obstructive sleep apnea, and thyroid dysfunctions.
13) There are 3 types of Down Syndrome. Trisomy 21, Mosaicism, and Robertson Translocation.
14) Studies have shown that over 90% of pregnancies positively diagnosed with Down Syndrome prenatally will be terminated.
15) Health factors can contribute to a shorter life expectancy for people with Down syndrome. The average life span for someone with Down Syndrome is around 60. This is dramatically improved since 1980 when the average life expectancy of a person with DS was only 25.
16) Fertility amongst both males and females is reduced; males are usually unable to father children, while females demonstrate significantly lower rates of conception relative to unaffected individuals. Approximately half of the offspring of someone with Down syndrome also have the syndrome themselves. There have been only three recorded instances of males with Down syndrome fathering children.
17) Children with Down syndrome always resemble their parents. They are not freaks or misshapen or deformed. My son looks exactly like his Daddy and it's quite striking.
18) Until the middle of the 20th century, the cause of Down syndrome remained unknown. With the discovery of karyotype techniques in the 1950s, it became possible to identify abnormalities of chromosomal number or shape. In 1959, Jérôme Lejeune discovered that Down syndrome resulted from an extra chromosome.
19) Compared to the general population, individuals with Down syndrome have a 12-fold higher mortality rate from infectious diseases, if these infections are left untreated and unmonitored. These infections are due to abnormalities in their immune systems, usually the t-cell and antibody-mediated immunity functions that fight off infections. Children with Down syndrome are also more likely to develop chronic respiratory infections, middle ear infections, and recurrent tonsillitis. In addition, there is a 62-fold higher incidence of pneumonia in children with Down syndrome than in the general population.
20) Children overseas in Hague countries who are orphaned have till the age of 4 to be adopted before they are institutionalized. This is because this children are looked at as unwanted and as a burden. There is a strong push in North America right now to adopt children with DS internationally.
21) I would never change my son for anything. He is absolutely perfect and he has Down Syndrome for a reason. He is here to teach our family and the people around us about life, Down Syndrome, children, love, and compassion.

The above pics says "Don't Even Look At Me!"
But I know that face and one word from dad could make him burst into laughter.
Take note of the Camo!
SAMRAM!
1) Samuel is 11, SNAKE EYES! He turns 12 in May!
2) Sam lives with us in Calgary and every other weekend he spends with his Momma in Rocky Mountain House.
3) Mr. Sam Loves to read! I have never met an 11 year old boy who reads as much as he does and we are extremely proud of him.
4) Samuel is my step son but I consider him my real son.
5) Sam's fave food is spaghetti, I think, at least his most common favorite food is Spaghetti.
6) Sam's fave books are the Warriors series. They are about warrior cat clans.

7) His newest addiction, otherwise known as a video game, is Spore. I don't want to say too much about Spore because most likely I will be way off, but it's a game where you create creatures and then they evolve. There is really no end to the crazy creature combinations.

9) He always makes me tea when I am sad.
10) He has 2 lil brothers, Hunter is his brother from another mother, and Casey who is a half brother on his mothers side. LOL If that makes sense.
11) Sam helps us every day with the unloading the dishwasher and every week with the garbages.
12) He hates brown beans!
13) He loves camo.
14) He is amazingly independent.
When we are in the mall or grocery store and he can not find us he never panics, he just looks for us. Last year, during the Canada festivities I suggested we go get ice cream and Sam misunderstood me and thought I told him to go get the ice cream. There were probably 10 - 15 thousand people in the park and Sam had never been there before. Off he ran with the money, through the crowds, right back to the Market place where he bought us two ice cream cones. Meanwhile, I'm chasing behind him with a stroller, trying to push past all the people, completely unsuccessful. Slowly he disappeared from my sight and I was completely freaking out thinking, OMG he has no idea where he is going or how to find me!!! I called Dave. I lost your child! AHH what do I do? He said, "Wait there, or go back to where you guys were sitting, if he doesn't show up then get security to help you." I turn around and there is Sam with the biggest grin on his face and two mitts full of ice cream, prouder than a Peacock. I'm practically in tears and of course my first thought is WHAT THE HECK WERE YOU THINKING!?!?! I was so scared while he was gone. I still feel bad because I made him cry, he didn't mean to run off on me, he was just so happy to be getting ice cream for us. We manged to get over it and enjoy the rest of the festival without any further trauma. But how independent of him to head off through the crowds, fearlessly set on an ice cream cone and showing me he could do it all on his own! <3
15) Which reminds me, Sam is very very smart and capable but he is 11! Soooo, basically if he doesn't HAVE to do it, he most likely WONT do it... Ie cutting his nails! LOL
16) Sam really loves cats and has quite the relationship with Punkin.
17) He makes a mean banana bread!
18) His favorite TV show is Daily Planet.
19) He is a really good swimmer.
20) He has the weirdest memory. He can't remember things that he did TODAY, but often he can remember the most odd ball things from like 2 years ago.
21) He helps me make up crazy songs to sing to the Bean all the time. Or he knows all the words to songs, like Bob the builder, that I don't know and he helps me remember them.
Hi Mr. SamRam! I love you!
Underwear Sockman! Underwear Sockman!
Lastly, Sam takes some really cool pictures so I think I will start a Sam Stuff Saturday. Remind me to post a few of his pic when I get home.
