More CPAP Progress

Snuck in to my lil turds room and snapped a quick pic of him sleeping with his mask on again the other day. Pretty good for his first week!

Today Shaunee, the respiratory therapist came over to check up on our progress. I had scheduled her to come at 1 pm so that by then Hunter would be good and ready for a nap. He wore his mask without a fuss and we took him upstairs to his room where we hooked him up and turned the machine on. I held him until he fell asleep. No fussing, No crying. Just calm, peaceful sleep! AVEC OXYGEN SIL VOUS PLAIS!

Sleep Study Here We Come!

Saturday night is Hunter Bean's overnight sleep study at the Alberta Children's Hospital. I'm a little mixed up about it right now because getting the little man to cooperate and wear the CPAP mask has been a trial in patience. Throw glasses into the mix and the day can be down right frustrating. Bean still doesn't want to wear the mask and I'm lucky if he will tollerate it long enough to fall alseep while wearing it. He doesn't understand NO yet either so getting him to leave the mask alone and not pull it off is the hardest part. When he was a lot smaller we didn't have that issue as he didn't really know how to pull the mask off and now he most certainly does. The glasses are the worst. They come off so quick and easily and I don't know how to keep him from pulling them off. I sit him on my lap and play with him for a little bit while he wears them, holding his hands and keeping him busy, but the minute I let go of his hands he pulls them off. Today he was being so silly. He knew he couldn't use his hands to pull them down but he still wanted them off so he kept stuffing his face into my chest and trying to pust them down. It was cute. He was really trying!

I am kind of looking forward to see how well he does with all the testing and the results tho. Additionally, and I know this may sound completely nuts but, I like sleeping in the hospital. It's relaxing to me. There are people there to take care of you and they have seen everything so there is no reason to be embarrassed about things. They took really good care of us when I had Hunter and that left a great impression. I am looking forward to just ... Sleeping.

So Thursday we have to be at the Children's for 8 pm to sleep over. Bean will be ok with that. He has had many nights away from home camping and going to Nana's or granny's.

Sleepy Bean! Cranky Bean!

SOOOoooo... We were having some issues in January with the Bean not sleeping well. He was waking up about every 2 - 3 hours which was enough to make his poor momma crazy. Fortunately this was happening while Nana was here visiting so I had the divine pleasure of being able to sneak in a few naps in the early afternoon to make up for the late night crying fits. This seemed to have been a teething issue and quickly resolved itself after The First Tooth appeared. Bean was once again sleeping about for about 6 hours at a time.

But there was still an issue with his sleep. Now D and I understand that the Bean has sleep apnea so we realise that he has more restless sleeps, but he still doesn't sleep as long as he should. Quite often he will wake up a 4:30 am for no real reason other than he is cold and uncomfortable. David will then bring him to bed with us and spoon with him till he falls back to sleep again, which usually doesn't take long. We tried to resolve this issue with a sleep sack but it wasn't much help. Either D would forget to put it on or we wouldn't be able to find it, or it was in the wash... we are lazy parents!

But through trial and error we came to realise that THIS KID CAN ACTUALLY SLEEP LIKE THE DEAD! But only when he is in mommy and daddy's bed. If I put him down for a nap in his crib, I'm lucky if he will sleep for 45 mins. If I put him down for a nap in our bed under the duvet with a lil pillow, he'll sleep for 3 hours! The other day we woke up at 7:30am and he was still zonked out between us and we had to wake him up to put him in the car seat.

Soooo... we got to thinking.. "Maybe his bed is cold and uncomfortable." We usually pile him up with lots of cozy blankets but he kicks them off and is always uncovered when D goes to get him at 4 - 5 am.

So the solution!!!

IKEA CRIB DUVET AND PILLOW SET!

We got a crib duvet and pillow set from Ikea on Saturday after work. He also got a brand new fancy sheet set for it too! We also bought a second duvet for UNDER his fitted sheet. This has made the mattress Uber comfy and a lot softer, and most likely makes his bed much warmer.

And low and behold last night the Sleepy Bean slept till 8:30 AM in his new, cozy, snuggly warm bed. It looks so gosh darned comfy that I want to climb in there with him. LOVE NEW SHEETS!

While we were at Ikea I picked out a new book shelf for the Beans room because I have been collecting books for him long before he was born and I haven't had anywhere to put them.

Hey Tricia, I'm going to organize his books by color! I'm stealing this idea from Tricia of Unringing the Bell Fame. This post is one of my faves! I think the ABSOLUTE best part of this post is the last picture of Georgia in her baby legs with her pig tail just spilling off the top of her head. I know I have said it before in an earlier post, but I am just addicted to Tricia's blog. She is an amazing writer and is just so creative, colorful and always a joy to read. If you have time or even if you don't, you should stop in and have a read.

We have been worried about the Beany a bit today. He just hasn't been himself. He slept till 11 am in our bed after waking up in his crib at 8:30. He had his breakfast and I gave him a bath. I put him in his swing with his morning bottle of formula and at 12:41 I turned around to check on him and he was out cold. He slept in his swing till about 3:30. D fed him at around 4 or so and let him play on the floor for a bit but he said that Bean was being a crank. I guess Motrin didn't help and when D tried to put his fingers in Beans mouth to see if he was teething he burst into a tiny fit of pain. So he gave him some Nummy Gummy (which is an Erinism that I love) aka Orajel. Apparently that tamed the beast for a lil bit but I suspect he is either coming down with a cold or he is breaking in a new tooth. I guess we will know for sure tomorrow. D is taking Mr. Sam to the Pediatrician for a referral and they said they will take a look at Beany too. If he doesn't have a fever or any other flu or cold symptoms by tomorrow it will most likely be a tooth.

Another tooth will be exciting. Today he yawned in the bath tub and I could see his tiny lil white tooth, glaring at me.. saying "Ima Bite you when You LEAST expect it momma!"

Let's hope he's feeling better soon. He was just so blah and lethargic and unBeanlike. Made me worried!

Chomping bean!

Lil Baby Bitee Bean!

THE BEAN HAS A TOOTH!!!

It was coming through while Nana was here and that was when we first discovered it pushing through his lil gums, but it has finally arrived.

I would love to preserve this moment by taking a picture of the tiny lil beast peeking its sharp lil head out, but alas and alack, it is such a tiny lil tooth and good luck getting the Teeny Beany to sit through a picture of the inside of his mouth!

Another update of the Bean.

This Tuesday we have an Eye Appointment and the Alberta Children's Hospital. We have been waiting a few months to get him in to see (ha ha) the Eye Doc. He has a tendency to be a lil cross eyed at times and it seems that his left eye tends to be a lil more crossed than the right. I'm hoping that the Eye Doc can help us out with this. I know that if he needs lil tiny glasses he will be THE most awesomely cute child ever! I think that would just be fantastic. I don't WANT him to have glasses. I would rather his eye sight be prefect, but if he needs glasses I wont complain.

Then we have an over night sleep study at the Children's in March. We get to spend the night in the hospital, Bean with hoses and machines hooked all up to him, recording his oxygen levels. I'm not really looking forward to sleeping in the hospital but it's for the best. This way we will get a better idea as to Beanies needs and how best to cope with his sleep apnea.

The sleep apnea is becoming a bit of a pain for him I think. Poor lil guy has been waking up alot lately. I think part of that had to do with the tooth coming through and a slight cold that he had which was making him all stuffed up and runny nosed. The cold has cleared and the tooth has surfaced and he is not waking up every two hours any more but I can tell he is still having issues with the apnea. I wish I could make it better. It's so nerve racking to know you lil boy stops breathing in the middle of the night.

Hopefully we will get him to cooperate with the CPAP machine here soon and he can start wearing it at night. That would make me alot happier.

I will update soon about the eye Doc appointment.
